| ANACAPRI-LA
MAGLIERA: this itinerary starting from Anacapri through
the Via Magliera, surely is one of the most fascinating walking
that is possible to take in Capri. From Piazzetta Vittoria taking
the via Caposcuro close the the chairlift bringing Punta Carena's
panorama. The street , built by the Romans, could be a special
moment also during the night. The beautiful panoramic view persuaded
the ancient Romans to build here their houses of which is possible
to see the ruins. The itinerary is not so tiring till the the
panoramic vie of Punta Carena but it continues for those more
trained till the top of Monte Cornaro, the highest in Capri
Island. |
VILLA
SAN MICHELE DI AXEL MUNTHE: Axel Munthe, famous doctor a
writer, fell in love for Capri and soon decided to live here.
He stayed in Capri from 1896 to 1910, bought Villa San Michele
that raised from the ruins of a Roman house of which he preserved
the floor still visible in the garden. Munthe's idea for the
villa included an opening space appearing at the sea that would
have been able to collect the light of the sky inside the villa
as he reported in the famous romanze "La storia di S. Michele"
translated in 53 languages. Architectonical style of the villa
resulted to be bizzarre, being plenty of vaults and terraces
ornated by classical estatues as the Tiberio's half-lenght one.
Furnishings keep pieces that date back to the XVII century.
We do like to remember among these the Medusa's head and the
Egiptian Sphinx. The garden keeps rare plants unique among those
composing the Mediterranean scrub. |
